YES WE CAN!!!

Apart from the fact that this is the first election where I have truly cared enough to want to get involved, and where I have cared enough about a candidate to speak out in support for him and what he stands for, and apart from the fact that I really do believe Obama is the man for the job at this time in our country, here is a quote from the New York Times that sums up why I found myself so emotional last night while listening to Obama's acceptance speech:
From far away, this is how it looks: There is a country out there where tens of
millions of white Christians, voting freely, select as their leader a black man
of modest origin, the son of a Muslim. There is a place on Earth — call it
America — where such a thing happens.
This is monumental. I'm so proud to be an American today, proud to live in a place where we are truly free and where we are blessed with the opportunites that so many people in so many countries are denied. Whether you voted for Obama or not, I hope you can join me in supporting him as our next president.

God bless America.

  1. I felt exactly the same way. Watching his acceptance speech was very touching to me. More so than I expected even. I just kept thinking, How could you not want him to be your president?

  3. I thought about you, Pam, when they showed the crowd at Grant Park. I wondered if you and John were there, but I figured with a 2-year-old...yeah, not happening.

How do you say Illinoisian without pronouncing the "s"?

  4. I was pretty excited myself. I have to say though I think that while he is doing his best to manage expectations -I worry that some people will expect instant perfection. He has got to have the hardest job in the world right now. But better him than...well anyone else.

  5. I don't agree with all of his policies (I could list, but I'm done with politics right now), but I don't agree with all of McCain's either. I didn't vote for Obama, but I'm not really upset that he's the next president. I'm actually kind of excited to see how he does as president. And I'm proud that our country has come so far in 150 years. Yea for all of us!

  6. It's nice to see everyone so happy and unified about our President. I will support him.
I was thinking today how interesting it will be for me to write in Marie's journal that the first election in her life time an African American was elected. I'm sure when she is older she will be like "what's the big deal?" I hope our kids can take for granted alot of things like that, hopefully living in a more fair and just world.
