Random Thoughts Thursday

When I was in London on Study Abroad we went to the Tate Modern art museum. Let’s just say it was an enriching experience. It taught me that anyone can be an artist. Dave Barry seems to agree with me.

Every once in a while our computer speakers pick up some weird frequency and we get snippets of people talking. It makes me think of “COPS”. The other day I heard the following: (spoken with a drunkish redneck accent) “I’m just tryin’ ta tell her I can stay up as late as I want, go out when I want, drink what I want…” Interesting.

Why is it that the fancy Bath & Body Works soap leaves a nasty scum in my sink, while the cheap store brand stuff has never done that?

I ordered books from Amazon on Monday and I am furious that they won’t even ship until the 2nd. What am I supposed to read until they get here?

The girls have Webkinz animals. Is it sad that I love the games as much as they do? I really need to get a life.

I truly believe in the power of prayer.

I hate dialup internet.

If I’m going to join Facebook (it’s becoming more inevitable every day) I need an awesome photo of me, one that not only makes me look really good, but also looks totally effortless, like that’s how I look every day anyway, no big deal. Because I care so much what people think of me.

I like it when people comment on my blog. It makes me feel justified in spending the time to post. This is not a hint, of course. Wink, wink.

  1. I have gotten bored with Facebook lately. I still check it everyday but that's about it. I rarely post pictures and I am so tired of the surveys. John discovered twitter.com which is basically just the status update application of FB. You have 140 characters to give an update or say something profound and clever. You find other people's twitters and get updated all day on what's going on with them. It's fun, especially the fake Kristen Stewarts and Robert Pattinsons. There are real celebrities on there too. Maybe do twitter first and ease yourself in. The problem with FB is you get on their initially, find all your friends, say "hi, it's been a long time" and that's it. After the initial "gathering" of old friends, it's pretty boring.
And, we both know you always look fabulous, so don't even worry about the picture! Love you!

  2. I ordered books from Amazon too!! I dont know what the deal is..its always like 'your book should arrive in the next year sometime'. ahhh!!!

People have told me that I look nothing like my facebook picture. It's very gratifying to hear, because that was my objective:)

Was it your "computer" saying those things, or was it Chris in your marriage counseling session? Let's try and keep Random Thoughts Thursday honest, people!

  3. I love Amazon. It is one of my favorite stores. They are sometimes lacking in the shipping though. Depends on if you are shipping from them or someone else.

I really love facebook. I have found a lot of my highschool friends on there and that is neat. They have a lot of "time waster" applications on there that I like to do. You know, little games and such. My pictures on there aren't very flattering at all, but you can share photos & stuff and that is why I like it. I just tell my family (almost all of the are on it) that I posted pictures and they can look at them without me having to "show" everyone. I also have found my brother is Orlando on it, so I think it's good.

I also like it when people comment on blogs. It lets you know that someone is actually reading it. ;)

  4. Allison,
All I can say is that you have stayed thin too long. Start busting into those girl scout cookies. Then, put your picture on facebook, and the rest of us will feel better.

  6. I hated Facebook at first. Found it SO boring. But now I play games and comment on people's status and do puzzles and send Flair and look at photos...

Twitter was cool for a few days. But I'm bored with that now and think it's only worth it if you have some fancy iPhone or something where you can check it often and update often.

What books did you order? I need some new stuff to read. DESPERATELY need books to read.

I love comments, too. I miss the huge discussions we used to have on blogs, like 2 years ago. Too bad we were blogging buddies then. You would have LOVED some of the crazy conversations we had. :)

  7. Have Nicole do you make-up and I'll take a "candid" picture of you like sitting on the couch or something...That would be cool...

  8. Ooh, I like Becki's idea. It's always fun to have Nicole do your make-up. I wish I could. I love that you get your own version of COPS on the radio. Makes life exciting. Stupid rednecks!

  9. I'm still in FB denial. I had been thinking that it was just for "those crazy young kids" but it seems like it is the new email. Sad that I'm getting behind the times and I'm only 30.

New book to read...."The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society." I haven't yet finished it but here are its selling points.
    1 - About England.
2 - Well written and great characters. It makes you hope she would write more about them they are so delightful.
3- The story is...fun. It isn't terribly deep but quite enjoyable. I would tell you more but I'm already getting long on the comment and you can get reviews on Amazon.

  10. I have to say that I love your random thoughts! Totally entertaining.

Wish my speakers did cool things like that. The only interesting thing they do is stop working every now and then for no good reason at all.

I need to try ordering books from Amazon. The library waiting lists take too long!!! The book that Emily suggested at my library has a waiting list of 110 people! It must be good if that many people want to read it. But not sure I am willing to wait that long.

Good luck with FB. I joined but not addicted like my HB or his family. They have some fun stuff though. (=
